I've been working on this a couple months now for a friend. the car had several issues when he got it. we are making good progress sofar. I could go on about this forever but I'll let the pics do most the talking

when he got the car:

engine bay overall
Posted Image

vacuum line setup needed a major overhaul
Posted Image

the intercooler was not getting any airflow across it when the bumper was on. we felt it after making a few pulls. it was so hot you couldnt keep your hand on it
Posted Image

we did a major overhaul on the wire harness. heres all the wires we took out
Posted Image

took out the rusty blower housing to powdercoat it
Posted Image
Posted Image

it looked like someone used the wrong nut on the tranny mount, and tried putting it on with an impact gun. it was rusty anyway so we replaced the mount
Posted Image

the rear shock tower bar was poorly welded onto the body. its getting replaced with a good powdercoated one
Posted Image

we pulled the carpet out the interior to find the fuel pump ground wasnt even bolted down. VERY disturbing :O
Posted Image

all of the ports for the intake and exhaust manifolds were mis-matched. the plenum spacers are bigger than the upper and lower intake manifolds. the exhaust manifold ports are smaller than the head ports.

heres a few other parts I've powder coated sofar

and the short shifter

yes im good at doing close-ups now :) that and a good set of batteries makes the camera much mo betar :)

there was actually even more wrong with the car than that

the intake air temp sensor was just laying around in the engine bay. so the computer had no idea how hot the intake temps were.

the car was swapped to 5spd, but still had the auto mount brackets. theres 3 brackets that are different. this is just the front one. the black one is 5spd you can see how much longer it is. both axle boots were getting pulled off because the engine was sitting at the wrong angle

Posted Image

the oil drain for the turbo is too low in the oil pan. its supposed to be above the oil level, so most likely the drain is getting backed up

the car was swapped to manual steering. missing the right coupler where it connects to the column so its loose. also the steering wheel was bolted on upside down

the exhaust downpipe had a "slip on" coupler.. which basically slips OFF easily. the entire exhaust from there back could of easily fell and broke off the car. we had it temporarily supported with coat hangers to keep that from happening

theres even more im sure.. but enough for now lol

It was Matt's (mstreim's) car before David bought it. IIRC it sat for a long while as well. We all make mistakes and it sounded like he was losing interest in it. I dunno lol but I remember how beautiful it looked :). Now theres like 3 other cars that look just like it.

it took over 2 hours to get the snap ring back in for the HKS BOV. that really sucked. we tried every type of snap ring pliers (straight, 45*, 90*) with no luck.

the solution was putting a small clamp on snap ring pliers where the end kept slipping off. even with that it wasnt easy but we finally got it.

we found they only make shift cables for 88, so we are going to get a select cable for a 90 and change the select arm end on the shifter side. thankfully you can just swap those right out.

both axles needed to be pulled since the boots pulled off them. once we found that both control arms were toast we had alot of "fun" removing them. we first tried removing the control arm on the car, but couldnt get enough leverage. so I decided it would be easier to just remove the subframe, that way we could get enough leverage with it off the car.

we broke 2 sockets trying to get one of the rear subframe bolts off    THANKFULLY the bolt did not round out.

now some pics

looking better. still a few things to do though
Posted Image

ya the control arms are done for. not good
Posted Image

at least we got a new laser etched craftsman socket out of it
Posted Image

this is the typical scene when working on Jbody suspension, now isnt it? LOL
Posted Image

bunch of stuff now powder coated:
